Single Acting, Spring Return
The basic difference between single and double-acting pneumatic actuators comes down to the number of parts. Single-acting actuators have one port where compressed air is forced into the cylinder, thrusting the piston rod into place. With spring return single-acting cylinders, compressed air pushes the piston in place with a fitted spring returning it into the original position. These types of pneumatic cylinders are simple and compact in design and more affordable than double-acting pneumatic cylinders. On the other hand, single-acting cylinders have a shorter life span and the bore size/stroke of cylinders are restricted because of spring size and force. They are great for many applications including ejecting parts from a conveyor belt.
We stock single-acting pneumatic actuators from Clippard and Festo.
